SCHOOL TRIP  A.C.E.

Book Projects

HW-RJ 5.3 Read for 20-30 minutes or iReady lessons.

We started the class by writing down the agenda in our binder reminders and taking a minute. Then, we listened to Will's blog for yesterday and made corrections. After, we started reader's workshop as Ms. Nakada went around checking our reading journals. After reader's workshop, we started where we left off on our School Trip A.C.E presentations. Janelle presented her poster, telling us about why their group thinks race can affect travel experience. Next, Vianney told us about why Drew appreciates feeling invisible while in Paris. After a few more presentations, we started our personal School Trip A.C.E. paragraphs. After a few minutes, we started to pack up our things before the bell rang. Finally, we all put our chairs up as the bell rand and Ms. Nakada dismissed us.

Book Fair

Week 5: Song

School Trip ACE

Today, we started class by listening to the guided meditation and wrote down the agenda and the homework. The smell of pizza was intoxicating. Next, we walked on down to the Book Fair and some people bought books and posters. Then, we came back up and listened to "Redemption Song" by Bob Marley. Afterwards, we discussed the meanings in the song and wrote our favorite line of the song. Following this, people began to finish the School Trip A.C.E. Then, people began to present their A.C.E.'s. Almost all of them looked well made. Soon the bell rang, and we were dismissed table by table.

Reader's Workshop

Week 5: Grammar, Quote, Question

School Trip: A.C.E.

HW: RJ 5.1 Read for 20-30 min. or I-ready lessons.

Firstly, we entered the classroom and took our seats before writing our agenda. After, we did take a min. and wrote the readers journal entry for today. Once we were done, we started reading. Then, we wrote a new page into the table of contents before filling out the page. The page we were doing was grammar, quote, question, song for week five. However, was no song today due to a lack of time. Our grammar for today was identifying the subject and predicate of a sentence. We then wrote our quote after we finished with our grammar.. This week it was "Once you learn to read, you will forever be free" by Frederick Douglass. Also, we had to write what we thought it meant. We then shared what we had written. A short while after, we answered the question "What is your history as a reader." Lastly, we worked on the School Trip A.C.E posters until class ended.

Quick Write #1

HW: Stay Cool this weekend!

To begin the period, we wrote down the agenda in our binder reminders, and listened to our daily sun breaths. Afterwards, Angel, Josh, and I went down to get the pizzas for those who ordered one. Then, Isaac shared his blog and picked me to go next. Once that was complete, Ms. Nakada came around and checked our binder reminders for the past two weeks. After that, we started working on our A.C.E. School Trip posters. Next, we started on our first quick write of the year. The question was, "What is one thing you have learned so far this year?" After hearing the question, we all got to work writing our quick write of about 200 words. Finally, we finished a few minutes early and started to get packed up for the day. Once the bell rung, all the kids that ordered pizza grabbed their pizza and left the classroom for the weekend. That is what happened on Friday, September 6th, at 6th period.

Quick write tomorrow!

First we took a minute. Then, James shared his first blog. Afterwards, Ms. Nakada and the rest of the class corrected it. Then, Ms. Nakada asked us what book we were reading and what page we were at. Next, we read our independent books for 10 minutes. Then, we added to our table of contents. Also, we went over the meaning of each letter of A.C.E.  A, meaning Answer the question, C, meaning cite text evidence, and E, meaning explains how the evidence supports your answer.

Then, we started our A.C.E. . We went over the School Trip question: "What line do you relate to most?" and Ms. Nakada told each table group what chapter they are doing. Then, each group worked on that till the end of the period.

Independent Reading Plans

iReady - Readers Workshop

HW: RJ 4.2 Read for 20 - 30 min & summarize

We started off by taking a minute and our agenda. After that, we listened to Janelle's blog about yesterday and about how period four got pizza because they got 10 points. We also got a point because Janelle had no mistakes which got us up to 10 points. Then, Ms. Nakada talked about how much money pizza is since we have 10 points now.

After the blog, we had to get on iReady for 10 minutes, but if you were done you got to work on your reading journal to write a summary.

Once the 10 minutes passed we had to work on an independent reading plan which we talked about about our goals for the end of the semester. On the same page we worked on, "BOOKS READ" where we talked about the books that we read, number of pages, when we started, and if we did a quiz on it or not. Later, after talking about it we did a small quiz about a school trip. Then, we talked about the books that we are planning to read and re-read. Once we wrote down the books we are going to read, Ms. Nakada passed out cards for Reading recommendations to put on a poster.

After finishing everything, we got packed up and ready for the bell to ring.

Agenda :

- Take a minute/ blog/ corrections

- Independent reading plan

- I-ready -Readers Workshop

HW:

RJ (Reading Journal) 4.1;

Read for 20-30 minutes & summarize.

We've arrived to period 6 (The last period of the day, score !). We take our seats, and write in our agenda. Once we've finished writing the agenda, Graham reads his blog for the class. When Graham finishes reading his blog, there are a few mistakes and errors so we correct it.(Even though it was Hannah who corrected most of it. )

Ms. Nakada gets up to answer a knock at the door. She opens it, and its pizza ! (For her period 4.)

Once our disappointment is over due to the pizza not being ours. Ms. Nakada tells us to get our reading journals out and flip it to the back. She explains how we're going to layout our homework, and NOT write so much in the summary. We can read any book(Shes reading New Kid again) ,and write a three word summary on whichever book we read for 20-30 minutes.

After she was done explaining, we had to grab a book or do i-Ready (If you didn't finish the English diagnostic.)

At the end of the day, we start packing up, putting up our chairs, and standing by our desk. Waiting for the bell to ring. When it rings we say bye and leave.
