Banned Books Week

HW: RJ 7.2 T.O Ch. 3

We started our day off by writing down the agenda and listening to our daily take a minute. Aanjali read out her blog and chose me to write next. We opened up our Reading Journals and discussed chapter two of the book we've been reading, The Outsiders. We assessed our new characters, Cherry and Marcia, and talked about their differences. In this chapter we learned about how Johnny was jumped by the Socs. and how it affected him. "Things are rough all over" is an important quote that Cherry said on page 35 which Ms. Nakada asked if we agree with. After we were done talking about The Outsiders, we began working on our quote, question, and song, of the week. Our weekly quote was by Stephen Chbosky, the author of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. "Banning books gives us silence when we need speech. It closes our ears when we need to listen. It makes us blind when we need sight." was his quote. After reading the quote, we all wrote our opinion on what the author is trying to say. Next, We looked at a sheet about banned books. Our question of the week was if we read banned books. Since all of us are reading The Outsiders, we all read banned books. As the clock ticked closer to 1:55, We wrapped our day up and packed to leave. We waited for the bell to ring and once Ms. Nakada dismissed us, we all left.

School Trip: A.C.E.

HW: RJ 5.1 Read for 20-30 min. or I-ready lessons.

Firstly, we entered the classroom and took our seats before writing our agenda. After, we did take a min. and wrote the readers journal entry for today. Once we were done, we started reading. Then, we wrote a new page into the table of contents before filling out the page. The page we were doing was grammar, quote, question, song for week five. However, was no song today due to a lack of time. Our grammar for today was identifying the subject and predicate of a sentence. We then wrote our quote after we finished with our grammar.. This week it was "Once you learn to read, you will forever be free" by Frederick Douglass. Also, we had to write what we thought it meant. We then shared what we had written. A short while after, we answered the question "What is your history as a reader." Lastly, we worked on the School Trip A.C.E posters until class ended.

iReady - Readers Workshop

HW: RJ 4.2 Read for 20 - 30 min & summarize

We started off by taking a minute and our agenda. After that, we listened to Janelle's blog about yesterday and about how period four got pizza because they got 10 points. We also got a point because Janelle had no mistakes which got us up to 10 points. Then, Ms. Nakada talked about how much money pizza is since we have 10 points now.

After the blog, we had to get on iReady for 10 minutes, but if you were done you got to work on your reading journal to write a summary.

Once the 10 minutes passed we had to work on an independent reading plan which we talked about about our goals for the end of the semester. On the same page we worked on, "BOOKS READ" where we talked about the books that we read, number of pages, when we started, and if we did a quiz on it or not. Later, after talking about it we did a small quiz about a school trip. Then, we talked about the books that we are planning to read and re-read. Once we wrote down the books we are going to read, Ms. Nakada passed out cards for Reading recommendations to put on a poster.

After finishing everything, we got packed up and ready for the bell to ring.

HW:

RJ (Reading Journal) 4.1;

Read for 20-30 minutes & summarize.

We've arrived to period 6 (The last period of the day, score !). We take our seats, and write in our agenda. Once we've finished writing the agenda, Graham reads his blog for the class. When Graham finishes reading his blog, there are a few mistakes and errors so we correct it.(Even though it was Hannah who corrected most of it. )

Ms. Nakada gets up to answer a knock at the door. She opens it, and its pizza ! (For her period 4.)

Once our disappointment is over due to the pizza not being ours. Ms. Nakada tells us to get our reading journals out and flip it to the back. She explains how we're going to layout our homework, and NOT write so much in the summary. We can read any book(Shes reading New Kid again) ,and write a three word summary on whichever book we read for 20-30 minutes.

After she was done explaining, we had to grab a book or do i-Ready (If you didn't finish the English diagnostic.)

At the end of the day, we start packing up, putting up our chairs, and standing by our desk. Waiting for the bell to ring. When it rings we say bye and leave.
