HW - Finish  SCHOOL TRIP. Quiz tomorrow!

We started by writing our daily agenda and watching our daily elephant video. Ms. Nakada started  correcting the daily blog. Next, Ms. Nakada then came around and checked our reading journals. As Ms. Nakada was checking our journals we were continuing our diagnostics. Ms. Nakada went around again, only this time taking attendance. Sadly, we did not have any song today, but I'm sure we will have a song On Tuesday. Nothing much else happens, we mostly did our boring diagnostic the whole day, so that's all I can really say about Wednesday.

Week 3: Question + Song

Homework: Reading Journal 3.2 S.T pages 220-250

To start off the final period, we start getting into our assigned seats and began to write our agendas. Next, as a class we open our books, getting ready to summarize School Trip. During this, on pages 212-214, each character learns something new based on their trip. For example, the teacher learns to get out of your comfort zone, Drew learns more about idioms and certain pieces of figurative language, Jordan says there's never too much information to not know about, Ashley learns that new friends can be right under your nose, and Ramon learns that one person shouldn't ruin your happiness. Lastly, we listened to the song "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" by Edith Piaf to try to see what the song really meant to us and find a quote that stood out to us. Afterward, we packed up for the short day bell and went home.

HW Savor the week!

First, we wrote down the agenda in our binder reminders, and Ms. Nakada walked around the room and graded our agendas for completion. After, she started to grade everyone's homework from last night (School Trip P. 154-185). During that, everyone else was continuing to read School Trip or reading to catch up for their summary. After all of that, we started to talk about School Trip P. 154-185. We talked about how Paris was different from America and the kids visiting different places in Paris. On the walk back from the hotel, Maury, Drew, and Jordan talk about what it is like to fit in when they are at different places when it isn't their home. Ramon tells Andy how he hates him and Ramon explains all the reasons why he feels that way and Andy isn't fazed by it and says it feels like 'power'. After talking about School Trip, we started to do our quiz, and that was it for the day.

The first thing we did was write down the agenda. After everyone finished, we all went over the blog Eliora wrote and corrected it. Once that was done, Ms. Nakada told us to take out our reading journal to share our summary of pages 130-153 of School Trip. Ms. Nakada then took a moment to say how she wants to be able to say we do our homework and asked if we can find a moment in our schedule to fit in our English homework. She went over the chapter we had to read as homework afterwards and discussed it before she told us about what to include in our summary while she made her own. We are then instructed to use the rest of our time to finish our 'Writing Process', go over it and make sure it was exactly what we wanted to turn in before actually turning it in. Some people began to pack up at the four minutes mark and at the two minutes mark we were told to pack up.

Wednesday, August 21

We started the period off with taking a minute. Then, we went over Hannah's blog and corrected it. After, Ms. Nakada checked everyone's summaries on School Trip. We looked over pages 100 - 129 of School Trip, and Ms. Nakada wrote her own summary about the chapter, with some of the main points being: The group realizing they have no money and doing nothing about it, Samira teaching Andy a lesson on how to make jokes about people in a way people will laugh along with you, and Samira giving Jordan a chance to insult her without making fun of her religion or her gender. Jordan couldn't do this, most likely because he couldn't think of anything that didn't involve one of those things. We moved on to "The Writing Process" and talked about pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. We talked a bit about how our own writing processes might be different based on what we are doing like drawing, texting, poems, and typing. Around 3:10 Ms. Nakada told us to pack up and wait for the bell to ring.

SCHOOL TRIP

HW: Course outlines signed, letters home
RJ 1.1 School Trip p. 1 - 27

Welcome to our first class blog! Way back on Monday, the first day of school, my sixth period class came in at the end to a long, hot day. They found their way into seats at tables around the room and we were ready to get started.

The first thing we did was introduce ourselves. I introduced myself and each student introduced themselves.

Next, I passed out the course outline and we talked about materials, grading, homework, and rules. Students signed their understanding and we moved on to the course syllabus.

Each table did popcorn reading of the units we will study fall and spring semester.

The last paper I handed out was my first day letter. I started to read that, but then class was over!

On the second day...

We took a minute to do box breathing, and then we named our blog.

After that, I collected course outlines and although everyone had then, a few were missing.

We moved on to first day letters which was our first writers workshop. Students settled in to writing their letters to me and I passed out copies of books for students to take home.

That was it for the first couple of days. Such a good start to the year, y'all. We got this.
